We just need a GPS sensor on a keychain, and to tell google the relative position of a few major landmarks within the house e.g.) "top of the fridge", "under the couch", "dining room table"

I think rfid would work much better within a house. GPS tends to lose some effectiveness within buildings.
GPS isn't that accurate. It can be extremely useful for navigation, but finding small objects can be a pain...
