If you look from you chair at this picure you'll see A sad man in the left, and a calm lady in right.Now rise from your chair and go back 3 meters (8 feet), now you are able to see a beautiful illusion.

Not an artist but it looks to be much of the shading on the right figure, for example the extra dark shading down the side of her face that is responsible for the change. Those close up details that define the expression on the left face become less visible at a distance where shading factors take over
Also works if you just blur your eyes. Less effort.
ah, that's something about your eyes focus. An easier way to do the trick would be to put one of your fingers close to your eyes, and focus on it. Then look to the picture while keeping your eyes focused on your finger.
dude if you put your finger close to your eyes and focus on it.....then you'll see the image in duplicate.....
How does the pic on the left in any way look like a "sad" man. Cause it looks like a rabid zombie lord to me. Other than that very cool.
in fact, both pictures have two "layers", a blurry and a neat one. When we are close to the pictures we see the neat outlines, but when we blur our eyes or go farther, we can't see the neat 'layer' anymore so it's just the blurry one.
